Total chips needed:
For a standard home game with 6-8 players, you need 200-300 chips per player. A 500-chip set works for up to 6 players; get a 1,000-chip set for 8-10 players.
For a $20 buy-in with 4 colors: White ($0.25) x 20, Red ($0.50) x 10, Blue ($1) x 8, Green ($5) x 1. This gives smooth betting at all blind levels.
Divide your buy-in by your starting chip count. For $20 and 200 chips, each chip is worth $0.10. Then assign colors in multiples: 1x, 5x, 10x, 25x.
Standard values: White = lowest (1 unit), Red = 5x, Blue = 10x, Green = 25x, Black = 100x. But you can set any values you want for your home game.
